PM On Opposition's Economic Policy
Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány, recently dubbed economic
strategies of the leading opposition parties (Fidesz and Christian
Dems) as being a "Voodoo" policy" in Parliament. He
also criticised the right wing parties for offering 'populist' economic
solutions promising tax and social securities cuts. Despite growing
inflation Gyurcsány said, "The country is in a better financial
situation thanks to the efforts (of the Government) during the last
few months." Fidesz parliamentary group leader Tibor Navracsics
says the PM, who in the past admitted to having lied to win the last
political elections "should not lecture on morality. "
Sólyom of National Parks
President László Sólyom, recent on a tour of national parks,
claimed that the merger of Hanság and Orség national parks
is "not
a great idea."
He
expressed that he had requested the Austrian and Slovenian ambassadors
to meet up with him at the Rába-Lapincs
bridge to discuss water pollution
of the Rába River. "I can't understand the Austrian's behaviour.
Never have I have experienced such a cynical approach," he said promising
to spread the word. Following the meeting he visited Nagycenk,
to also lay a wreath at the Széchenyi shrine and meet with thermal
spa entrepreneurs
in Sárvár to talk about new opportunities for wellness tourism.
Unions
Demonstrate for Higher Wages
Union representing the military, police and fire fighters
have promised to stage demonstrations in front of parliament
in June, to raise awareness about their meagre wages and tough
working conditions.
The union leaders are demanding at least
an 8% wage increase.
Doctors Form Political Party
A Hungarian physicians party will be formed under the name
Összefogás népünk egészségéért (Combining Unity for the
Health of Our Population)
which will unveil its platform at a press conference in
Pilvax café this week, according to Miklós Loke, founding member
and head physician
at MAV Hospital in Szolnok.The new political party is expected
to announce a comprehensive program in the interests of
the working people in Hungary.
250 Join EU Rapid Force
Hungary will be deploying a total of 250 people to the
1,500 member EU rapid deployment force that will be on alert
for a six-month period from July, according to Defence Minister
Imre Szekeres, who made
the announcement recently in Brussels. Italy and Slovenia
have pladged to also also contribute soldiers.
New Currencies
in June
The Hungarian National Bank (MNB) is to list new currencies
from June 1. These include the Brazilian Real, Estonian
Crown, Latvian Lat,
Lithuanian Litas, Chinese Yuan . MNB says it wants to cover
all EU member countries and countries of "economic" importance
to meet market requirements.
