Budapest hosts star
performers this spring
written by Anita Brkanic
Some for the first time, some for the last, and some unlike any
other time. World stars, celebrities, and old legends will be
spicing up the evenings in Budapest starting this March. There
will be something for every generation; old and new favorites
for every musical taste. Big names, talented artists, great performers…
all in one place! The concerts are scheduled and the artists
are ready to entertain, but for a truly amazing atmosphere they
will need the support of enthusiastic and devoted fans. Without
doubt, Budapest will take care of that. Let the show begin!
Bobby McFerrin in Budapest – Twice
Bobby McFerrin, the world-famous jazz singer and classical conductor,
is well-known to commercial audiences by virtue of the monster
radio friendly hit, "Don't Worry, Be Happy." But his
brilliance as a ground-breaking vocalist and writer goes far beyond
his mainstream appeal. Sponsored by Matáv, Bobby McFerrin, will
give his first concert in Budapest at 16:00 and at 20:00 on May
24, 2004. He will conduct the Matáv Symphony Orchestra in the Erkel
Theater. It is sensational that all the tickets for the event were
sold out within two weeks.
The enthusiastic response from the side
of the fans encouraged the organizers to ask the artist and
the Matáv Symphonic Orchestra to give a second concert, too. Moved
by the enormous interest by the Hungarian audience, the artist
has agreed to a double concert.
Pink – a Voice of Unabashed Freedom
Born Alecia Moore, Pink is about to dazzle Budapest with her voice.
Her concert is scheduled for April 5, 2004 at the Budapest Sports
Arena. As opposed to the majority of female artists, Pink chooses
to sing about true moments in her life, her thoughts, and personal
experiences, rather than romantic love songs that carry no in-depth
meaning for her. Whether she is sad, happy, or angry, she will
definitely let her audience know, and she will do it in the most
brilliant way. She emphasizes this in one of her famous lines:
“I decided at 15 that I didn’t want to be one of those artists
that get up and sing love songs they don’t mean. I decided I was
going to be me to the fullest extent, that my songs were going
to reflect relationships I’ve had, things I’ve been through, and
even the stuff I’m embarrassed about.”
Cher – Living Proof - The Farewell Tour 2004
Cher, one of the most popular female artists in music history,
is coming to Budapest on June 6, 2004. As can be seen from the
official name of the Tour (Living Proof - The Farewell Tour 2004),
the Budapest concert is a part of Cher’s Farewell Tour and will
therefore be not only her first, but also her last concert here.
This gives the Hungarian audience one last chance to hear this
exceptional artist perform live at the Budapest Sports Arena.
Britney Spears – the Princess of Pop
Britney’s tour started this spring and will take her to Budapest
on May 23, 2004 where she will perform for the Hungarian audience
at the Budapest Sports Arena. On tour, the 22 year star is focusing
on songs from “In the Zone”, her fourth album, the first song of
which Britney recorded together with Madonna. The album has sold
a solid 2.1 million copies since its release in November. Hungarian
fans are waiting in anticipation to hear her perform some of the
songs live.
