Growing up with Peter Gabriel
The acclaimed artist brings his elaborate stage show to Budapest Sport Arena
Peter
Gabriel, it seems, still has some growing up to do. Following on the heels of
his critically acclaimed 2003 “Growing Up” tour, the sonically adventurous artist
is back on the road in 2004 with the aptly titled “Still Growing Up” tour, which
sees Gabriel bring his elaborate stage show to the Budapest Sport Arena on Saturday,
May 15.
The ambitious live show will run the gamut of Gabriel’s extensive song catalogue
featuring classic tracks from his recently released Hit, a 2-CD greatest hits
compilation that gathers together many of the best tracks from the former Genesis’
front-man’s storied solo career. Music from Gabriel’s 2003 offering Up, the long
awaited solo-outing follow-up to 1992’s Us, will also feature prominently in
the set.
Of course, for concert-goers seeking more than just music, Gabriel’s trademark
theatrics have much to offer. While the initial dates of the “Growing Up” tour
were based on a stage set that was minimalist by Gabriel’s lofty standards, the
concerts quickly evolved into elaborate stage shows with no expense spared on
the props. Amongst other things, the concerts feature Gabriel being suspended
upside down over the stage, rolling about in a giant transparent ball, and riding
a collapsible bicycle – did we mention he sings as well?
Peter Gabriel plays the Budapest Sport Arena on Saturday May 15. The concert
is sponsored by Hungary’s Slager Radio and TV 2. Tickets for the show are still
available from participating ticket outlets.
